Happy New Year!!
Please join us for our January 22, Membership Meeting and talk on Plumerias with local expert Mernell Wong. Mernell is President of the Plumeria Society and has given talks throughout Southern California on Plumerias.
The talk and short meeting will begin at 6pm with a plant exchange at 5pm at UCR Palm Desert.
Mernell's talk will cover Plumerias that do well in our desert environment and tips to keep these healthy with winterizing, pruning and other care tips. She will surely share some knowledge from her recent trip to Hawaii and the Plumerias she studied there.
Plumerias originated in Mexico and Central America. They have had cultural significance to the Mayan, Aztec and contemporary cultures. Plumerias have been introduced widely throughout the tropics. Their heady evening fragrance attracts their pollinator, the prolific Sphinx Moth. You may have seen the Sphinx Moth caterpillars devouring Evening Primroses during last year's wildflower bloom.
We will also be voting on our Desert Horticultural Society of the CV officers for 2020.
And of course, we'll have our plant exchange at 5pm.
See you then.
