Join Professor Jim Adams on our very popular annual medicinal plant walk. We meet at the Carrizo Canyon, Art Smith trailhead in Palm Desert (on Hwy 74). Jim is also a certified Chumash Indian healer. His narrative is peppered with Indian lore and an unprecedented knowledge of the myriad of healing plants we encounter. This is a members-only event. There is no charge.
An optional no host lunch will follow the tour at the Daily Grill, located at 73061 El Paseo in Palm Desert.
Please note: this is not an easy hike. We will be walking in sand, gravel and rocky conditions. This is not recommended for those who find walking a mile up hill, with a return down the canyon difficult. There are no rest stops and no benches. There are no services at the trailhead, but there is a bathroom at the Friends of the Desert Visitor Center approximately 100 yards before the trailhead on the right.
Directions: Take Highway 111 in Palm Desert to Highway 74. Park at the Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center or across the street at the paved Art Smith trailhead parking lot.
Bring water, wear a hat, good sturdy hiking shoes, wear sunscreen, and enjoy the hike.
